    What to include

    • Customer name and the address where you worked
    • Each task as its own line
    • Hours and your hourly rate, or a flat price per task
    • Materials you bought, with receipts kept on file
    • Trip charge if you add one
    • Payment terms

    Tips

    • Round hours the same way every time and say how, such as to the nearest half hour.
    • Keep receipts for materials in case the customer asks.
    • Bundle small tasks into one invoice per visit.

    Questions

    Hourly or flat rate?

Hourly is fine for unpredictable repairs. Flat rates suit clear tasks like mounting a TV. Whichever you use, put it on the invoice.

Do I need a license to invoice?

Licensing rules for handyman work vary by state and by job size. Check your local requirements and include a license number if one is required.
