    What to include

    • Vehicle year, make, model, and mileage
    • Description of the work performed
    • Labor hours and your shop rate
    • Each part with its price, noting new or remanufactured
    • Warranty terms on parts and labor

    Tips

    • Put the vehicle details in the notes field so they print on the document.
    • Itemize shop supplies only if you normally charge for them and tell customers up front.
    • Note the warranty length in plain words.

    Questions

Should the invoice include the VIN?

Including it helps with warranty claims and records. Add it to the notes or the first line description.

Do I need a written estimate first?

Rules differ by state, and many require an estimate for work above a set amount. Check with your state consumer protection or licensing office.
